The Investor Mindset
by Real Estate Maestro™
I’m sure you have heard that a mind is a terrible thing to waste. Some of our greatest motivators have simplified it as:
Think It = Be It
That’s not the case. Unfortunately your world does not want you to be successful. If you don’t believe me, turn on the TV. At the time of this writing the mortgage market is in a meltdown, foreclosures are everywhere, homes are staying on the market for months on end, there are wars and rumor of wars, baseball is under investigation because of the Mitchell report and steroid use. Gas is above 3 dollars a gallon and oil closed at $96.00 a barrel. The world is a bit scary these days and with all of our economic uncertainty, you want to become a real estate investor.
What started out as a good Idea at the time may seem uncertain now that you have had a little bit of time to think about it, and the worst part, talk about it with friends, family, and relatives. Maybe some fears have evolved and some self doubt has crept in, that's ok, guess what, you’re normal. Don’t let your mind control your desire or your dreams. If you didn’t have some nervousness, I would say you’re not taking this seriously.
Think of your apprehension as your kindergarten preparation. I know that’s going back a long time for some of you. Do you remember the days leading up to your first day of kindergarten? I was a little scared and terribly nervous because I didn't quite know what to expect. My mother kept telling me how much fun it was going to be and about all of the new friends I was going to make. Your teacher, she continued, is going to give you a snack and let you take a nap. My mother went on for days about all of the new and exciting things that were going to take place but I couldn’t understand nor appreciate what she was talking about until I experienced it firsthand.
Any new venture of a personal, private, or economic nature is going to give you some apprehension. When you get nervous, think of kindergarten remembering that you sometimes have to step through the door first to fully understand. Remember, "it is the road to and not the inn, which makes a journey". Life is about the choices we make, the activities we choose, people we meet, places we see, those are our "road to". "The inn" or the result and rewards that follow, only last for a little while. Once you have achieved your result, you will pause for a while to celebrate it and enjoy it and maybe even share it with others. Soon you will have that desire again for the next venture, back out on the road. Change is good! I have changed my business almost yearly. I have bought, fixed and sold homes, bought mixed-use buildings, bought rental property and I even tried to become a mobile home king. Change pushes us to the next level. It allows us to overcome and develop another skill. Without change, life would be boring.
